Hi, I am Dr. Aruna Jagadeesh, Dentist, Founder - Smile Ever Dental Clinic & Health zone, Sarjapura Road, Bangalore .

One thing that everyone needs to remember about our oral health is

“Earlier is better”

One of the common mistakes that we do often is postponing the dentist visit as late as possible. On the contrary one should visit a dentist as early as possible. This helps in

  1. Reducing the complexity of the treatments.

  2. Makes the treatment as simple as possible.

  3. You save a lot of time as well as money.

For example let us talk about root canal treatments.

Root canal treatments are commonly required when you go to a dentist with pain. In reality you will see many warning signs much before tooth ache starts. These signs are like dark spots in the teeth , sensitivity of the teeth , food accumulation in between the teeth. All these signs are indicative of dental cavity.

Anatomically there are three layers of the tooth –

  1. Enamel: outer protective hard layer.

  2. Dentin: relatively soft layer.

  3. Inner most layer is pulp where blood vessels and nerves will be present.

When the cavity is present in the enamel and dentin if you visit dentist at the time we can do simple fillings, which can be done in a single visit and is a very quick and pain free procedure.

If you wait till pain comes then you need root canal treatment & crown, which is still fine as it saves your teeth. But root canal treatment and crown needs multiple sittings which is more expensive.

If you further postpone the treatment of achy tooth by trying to take medications and other remedies , then it becomes difficult to save the tooth , replacement will be complicated , compromised & expensive.

Hence to avoid the hassle of treatment visits, suffering and expenses. it’s a better idea to maintain the health of your teeth. You can maintain your teeth by following steps:

  • Brush your teeth twice and floss regularly

  • Avoid having sugar containing food as much as possible.

  • Most importantly visit a dentist every six months for a routine check-up.

With this the minor issues in the tooth can be identified early itself and can be treated or prevented in a simple manner.

Thank You!
