Dental x- rays one of the most important & commonly used diagnostic tools in the field of dentistry.

Dentist use radiographs especially for diagnosis of underlying dental problems like cavities, bone loss, along with it it’s also helpful to understand the status of developing tooth.

Basically, dentist use two types of radiographs:

·       Conventional radiographs

·       Digital radiographs

Conventional radiographs:

In this, there is the use of films to capture the images of the oral cavity. The films later on undergo chemical processing to get the final Image which is manually preserved.

Digital radiographs:

In this, there is the use of thin flat phosphorus sensor that runs through computer instead of x ray film to reproduce/replicate an image with very minimal radiation.

Why digital radiographs are preferred over conventional radiographs?

 1.     The amount of radiation produced is less compared to conventional radiographs.

2.     There is 70% less exposure to radiation than conventional x rays.

3.     Digital radiographs produce larger images which is better appreciated by doctor and patients.

4.     Digital radiography is environmentally friendly.

5.     Digital x rays offers256 shades of grey versus 16- 25 shades in conventional radiographs.

6.     Contrast and brightness can be changed in digital image which is nearly impossible in conventional x-ray.

7.     Since digital X-rays are computer driven multiple images can be stored in computer.

8.     Compared to conventional x-rays the digital x-ray film can be immediately processed and is available to view.

9.     The digital copy of the X-ray is easy to store & access for the patient as well as doctor

10.  The digital images do not lose its quality over time & can be retrieved whenever required.

In smile ever dental clinic, we have advanced dental imaging equipment that has the capability to produce the precise and efficient intra oral x ray images. It has perfect accuracy and also protects patients with minimal radiation and short exposure time. Digital dental X-ray at our centre is compliant with current guidelines and standards for digital compatibility with AERB Certification.
